KANCHAN JHA - a mission at 15 !At 15 she is one of the most sought after teachers. And her 'school' is an open-air piece of land in a sprawling
slum. Yet Kanchan Jha is ensuring that kids get the education they deserve. Little wonder that the U.S. government invited
this teenager from a Delhi ghetto to speak on the child's right to education. Last year, with support from CASP, Kanchan,
along with three of her friends, formed a Bal Manch, or a children’s parliament in October 2001 in her slum area. "
They meet every Sunday to discuss small issues related to themselves and their surroundings. They also try to find solutions
to problems in their immediate community.

that thought in those genteel times. All except Firaq of course, or so the story goes.
When the Bachchan`s first son,

Ajit Kumar Jha::Editor-Oman Tribune.
Ajit Kumar Jha has been appointed editor of the Oman Tribune, the country's third English daily. The
newspaper is staffed by a highly qualified editorial team drawn from around the world. Several well-known and highly regarded
correspondents from around the world will also contribute to Oman Tribune, Al Taei said.Editor Jha, whose last assignment
was at India Today as a senior editor, has been senior associate editor with The Indian Express in New Delhi. He was previously
employed with The Times of India as their resident editor for the Patna edition and as a senior assistant editor for their
editorial page in New Delhi.
Raj Kamal Jha:
Executive Editor-The Indian Express.
Raj Kamal Jha was born in 1966 in Calcutta, India. His father is a college professor
in Calcutta. After secondary school, Jha was accepted to the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology in Kharagpur,
to pursue a degree in engineering. One day, Jha observed a group of classmates passionately drawing diagrams, operating
machinery, and performing experiments. He then realized his interest in engineering did not equals theirs. Jha
began to question the path his life was taking. He had always felt drawn to the art of writing, but did not feel secure
enough in his abilities to completely abandon engineering (Rediff interview).
Jha graduated from IIT with a degree in engineering, and decided to apply to journalism school.
The University of Southern California offered him a full scholarship to their journalism program. He graduated from
USC with a master's degree in 1990. During school, Jha began to explore various forms of writing. He wrote for
college literary magazines, and after graduation, did internships at The Los Angeles Times and The Washington Post.
With his confidence growing, Jha came to realize that he did not care for reporting. Writing up the interviews appealed
to him much more than calling people and taking notes .
Four years after graduating, Jha returned to India to take a job with The Statesman,
an English daily newspaper based in Calcutta. He also worked briefly for India Today, before accepting the job
as deputy editor for Indian Express in 1996. Based in New Delhi, Indian Express is one of India's most
well known English newspapers. Jha is now the executive editor.
Jha's writing style has been called very sparse, especially in comparison to other Indian writers.
His writing is heavily influenced by the amount of time he spent in the United States, as well as by the works of twentieth-century
American writers Don DeLillo and Paul Auster. Another unique aspect of Jha's style is that he writes in English, unlike
his Indian contemporaries. After reading Salman Rushdie's novel Midnight's Children, Jha began to see the English language
as more than homework, and began using it as an aesthetic for his storytelling .

"I was born in 1969 in Jitwarpur, madhubani. My mother was my mentor.
Under her supervision and guidance I have emerged as an artist capable of creating these paintings.
"In this school
of art we do not make preliminary sketches, nor is our work planned. We simply pick up our brushes and create. A vivid and
creative imagination is essential in this style of art, for while motifs may be similar, no two paintings will ever be found
to be the same."
Mithila is a scholastic and cultural center in India that traces its lineage of arts from epic times.
Mithila paintings – alternately called Madhubani paintings – are a folk tradition kept alive by women in northern
Bihar. They depict events from epic, mythology and traditional designs on their floors and walls of their houses using crushed
wet rice and natural colors. From this age old tradition stemmed the practice of drawing Mithila paintings on a canvas of
hand-made paper or pure mulberry silk fabric using natural colors and fabric dyes. Brushes, sharpened reeds and pen nibs are
used.

Mr. Nitish Mishra-State Minister. Sugarcane

Rekindling hope in India’s heart of darkness, Coimbatore-based sugar major Rajshree Sugars
and Chemicals Ltd has chosen Bihar for its foray into the north to set up two integrated sugar complexes.
The single-window State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB) has already received
Detailed Project Reports (DPR) from Rajshree in this regard. The company proposes to set up two integrated sugar complexes
by investing a total of Rs 480 crore in two Bihar districts: Rs 242 crore for the East Champaran project and Rs 238 crore
for the one in Madhubani.
Early next week, the company will file a DPR for another project in Muzaffarpur
district. Apart from the three new mills, Rajshree has also applied for revival of three state-owned mills, now shut, in Madhubani,
Darbhanga and Muzaffarpur.
Rajshree’s proposed mills will not only produce sugar but will help
tide over part of the power crisis in the state. Each of its two sugar mills will have a minimum crushing capacity of 5,000
TCD (Tonnes Cane/Day) with co-generation units, producing 30 MW of power each. They will also have a distillery to produce
ethanol.
“It’s great news for Bihar. On May 2, the SIPB completed the
first hearing on the two project reports and forwarded it to different departments for the feedback which has to come in 15
days,” said Cane Development Minister Nitish Mishra.
If the departments do not raise any objections, then the project will be
deemed to have been cleared. Rajshree is keen to start the projects at the earliest. On behalf of the company, Dr M Naidu
(Advisor, Research and Development) has been camping in the state for the last two months. “We are very happy with the
response from the government and more than hopeful about getting the clearance,” he said.
In the DPR, Rajshree has urged the government to acquire and transfer the
land within 90 days as it proposes to commence operations from December, 2008. “If there is delay in land acquisition,
commissioning of the project will be shifted to the next season, depriving us of the incentives and subsidies... without which
the project may not be very attractive,” the proposal underlines.
Mishra is more than hopeful of early clearance. On incentives and subsidies,
he even hinted at a future revision to make it more competitive. “We are even thinking on offering more incentives than
UP, our nearest rival, to attract more companies,” Mishra told The Indian Express.
He said the proposal to revive 15 state-owned closed sugar mills is also
likely to take shape by this month-end. Already, a number of companies have shown interest in acquiring these mills.
Of the 39 Expression of Interest from sugar companies wanting to set up
new sugar mills, 13 have taken concrete steps forward. They have filed the Industrial Enterprise Memorandum (IEM) with the
Centre’s Industries department. The IEM, in short, means the companies are really serious about projects in the state.
Some of the major names who have filed IEMs are Upper Ganges, SKG, Radha Sugar and Rajshree. Dhampur Sugar, SCM and Ugar Sugar
are carrying out surveys in the state.
While only nine mills are working, sugar production in the state in 2005-06
has increased by 67 per cent—the highest in the country. Nearest rival UP way behind with 15 per cent while the all-India
increase is 45 per cent.
“The sugar crop was very good. In the mills, there’s no dearth
of canes for crushing. It’s an indication of the prospects for the industry in the state,” said Mishra.

Born in Satlakha village of Madhubani
District in the year 1944. He was fourth child of Mrs. Phool Maya Devi. He was very hard working since his childhood. He was
called “Boodbhai”(old brother) among all the villagers, as he was a very responsible child.
He studied
in “lohakapsiha” school, which was almost ten kilometers away from his village. All the boys used to walk to their
school, crossing few streams on the way. It used to be very bad during the monsoon season. |
|
After his schooling he came to Delhi
barefoot, with dreams of doing something very big.
His brother wanted him to do some clerical job but he wanted to
study further and join something different which had more opportunities in life.
It was at this particular time that
he joined five years course in Architecture. He used to work during daytime and attend Night College.
Along with his
Architecture he mastered the art of yogasna under swami Dhirendra Brahmachari. After completion of third year of Architecture
he got married to Manju in the year 1965. By the time he finished his Architecture all three of us were born. He started
his own practice in Delhi without telling his wife that he had left his job. Slowly with lots of hard work he established
himself in the field of Architecture and opened a firm called “Architechno”.
Today he is one of the most
